Southern Baptist leaders offer advice about how to prepare for a Supreme Court decision against laws against same-sex marriage:
1. Nobody’s going to force you to perform such weddings.
2. Don’t shun your gay kids.
3. Individuals must be prepared to make sacrifices for their beliefs.
I would have been embarrassed to think I needed to write the second item. The church should be the safest place on earth for a middle-schooler to come out.
The first and third items are awkward. The pastors are insulated from the problems faced by their flock, because the church isn’t a bakery or photographic studio. See my thoughts about secular businesses on my old blog and about some of the church’s privileges here.
